Personally, I really enjoyed the movie. The concept was not entirely new, as alternate reality is a concept already used by some movies, The Matrix, Vanilla Sky to name a couple. However, the execution of the movie was fantastic. It started a bit slow and slightly confusing for me, but after the first half n hour, I was glued to the screen, pretty much with the expressions of “no way”, “eeeehhh”, “ohhh so that was it”, “ohh no it really wasn’t”, you get the idea. The movie had a good plot line, good score, gotham city like scenes (having the same writer/director as Dark Knight – Christopher Nolan), interesting and inspiring effects which were rather nicely executed, and a complex story which wasn’t explained to its core but rather left a lot of things for the audience to realise/decipher. I would like to watch it at least a couple of times more to really understand it, but as far as first impressions are concerned, it is a seriously good attempt to create something like the matrix, and will probably have a cult following of its own just like the matrix. In short, highly recommended !!

Masud has summed up the movie pretty well. I went to see the movie with no preconceived notion of what the movie was all about, or even how hyped up it was particularly in the internet world; I only found out later that the film was rated over 9 on Imdb. So I was watching it from a completely blank slate and unbiased perspective.

But I have to say… I was impressed. Not only because the director was the same director behind the Dark Knight, or because the lead actor was one of the best of our generation, but the movie itself was… really really good. Haha, ok that doesn’t sound very enthusiastic on my part, but I cannot really explain what it is that I really liked so much about this film. The plot of the movie is very clever in the sense that, it took quite a while to really pick up pace and I was questioning why the movie was taking that long to be amazing. And yet it’s only after watching the rest of the movie that you realise it couldn’t have worked any other way. Also, the plot line becomes more clear the further in to the story, by watching the end, the start of the movie becomes more clearer. Confused much? I’m not surprised. But that’s pretty much the summary of the whole movie. It’s so cleverly written and executed that you have to watch the film to appreciate the movie entirely.

Yes I have to compare the movie to the Matrix at some point. Only cos while watching the film, I couldn’t help but feel a Matrixy vibe to the whole thing. But It’s weird though. Having said all that, I still cannot say it comes close to the genius that is the Matrix. I mean in essence, the concept was not a very original one. I personally think partly the reason for the heightened hype is because it’s been THAT LONG since a movie has been made that has the calibre to even try to compete with the likes of Matrix. But having said that, it’s really refreshing to finally see something that gave me that similar sense of thrill and ‘on edge of seat’ feeling after so long. I will need to see the film a couple more times in order to understand a couple of the scenes, but it’s sometimes better if you don’t know everything, it spoils the sense of mystery behind a story. And I think that was one of the charms of this movie, it left you questioning more.

Since then, we have been doing all kinds of things, going out places, watching movies and enjoying life. I guess we have lots to blog about so we shall start doing that more regularly now.

I will start with a movies category soon, as we watch loads of movies and we have decided we will blog our thoughts about each movie that we have seen together. I like this idea as it will be in a way preserving the history of how many movies we have seen together, which we can then tell our grand kids one day :D ok ok I know I am thinking way ahead in time but there is nothing wrong with planning eh?

Being members of the University of Oxford, your handy blue card gets you into many places for free, the botanic gardens being one of them. Once we entered the gardens, we immediately noticed the lack of plants and flowers. But seeing all the signs that were matching the missing plants made us realise we had come in the wrong month! I guess the flowers will bloom around the end of this month, so we will have to pay another visit. At least its free ;)

We still had lots of fun, we took lots of pictures. Also the fact that Masud is really good company made all the difference. After that, we decided to have lunch at Pizza Hut. We opted for the “Happy Hour” deal and were pleasantly surprised about the serving sizes and the cost of the deal. For five pounds, you get a starter, a main course of pizza, pasta or salad, a drink and a dessert. Not bad I say.
We ended our meal with some Costa latte’s. It sounds funny but it is actually cheaper in Pizza Hut then in Costa itself!

After that, we shopped around for some time. Masud bought me a necklace and bracelet; they are very prettyful :) but I think the bracelet is a bit big… or should I say my wrist is a bit small :$

So to sum up today, I started with a smile… and it ended that way too :) :) Here are some pictures from today:

I think it was quite good, especially from a visual perspective and some of the scenes were quite touching. I didn’t like the story much but then again that was not the point behind my excitement of watching it, it was the visual scenery and 3D of course, both of them were quite good.

Not sure if Henna got bored watching it again, I personally think she was still very interested, I guess you can watch Avatar more than once anyway without getting bored :)
